The former island of Schokland and its surrounding area tell the story of 10,000 years of living with water in the Netherlands. Buried in the soil are numerous archaeological treasures, making UNESCO World Heritage Site Schokland the location with the longest habitation history in the Netherlands. Schokland and its surroundings have been listed as a World Heritage Site since 1995.
Museum Schokland is a place where we not only look back at what has happened, but also look ahead to the future of living with water. Schokland is also a place where thousands of years of Dutch habitation history lie hidden beneath the ground. Museum Schokland aims to introduce visitors to this unique history of the Noordoostpolder.
