Modules Museum Schokland

Prehistory

Living on Clay
Who were these mysterious inhabitants of Schokland? How did they build their houses, and how did they obtain food? You will learn this by creating a pot archive. This comes to life during the workshop in the museum, where you will make a prehistoric pot with the mysterious symbols of your tribe. Back at school, you will then build a prehistoric village using natural materials.

Middle Ages

Robber Knights of Kuinre
You will meet Henric de Crane and his knights and get acquainted with the rough life of these notorious robbers. Nothing was safe in their vicinity, and they were also skilled in counterfeiting. During the workshop in the museum, you will be seated at a table for a genuine festive feast. Back at school, you will record all these impressions in your own ship's log.

The Schokkers

Fishers of the Zuiderzee
What was it like to live on an island in the Zuiderzee with only a few belongings? In the museum, you will discover all about these tough fishermen; what clothes they wore and how they lived in often harsh conditions. Artist Ernst Leyden lived for a while among the rugged fishing folk to paint them. During the workshop, you will learn his special watercolor techniques!

The Pioneers

From Here to the Horizon
The Noordoostpolder: just completed and still completely empty… Many people were eager to come live on this vast, barren plain! Who were these pioneers? In the museum, you will discover through a number of exciting experiments that it was not so easy to be selected. Then, you will create your own, creative polder portrait!

Excursion Workshops

On an Island

Little Duck Peddle wants an adventure and dares to cross to that unknown island. Where Aaltje and her friends live happily, right in the middle of the rough Zuiderzee. But oh dear, the island is getting smaller! How could that be? With clay and natural materials, you will come up with your own piece of adventure island. Together, you will make Schokland bigger again!

Wonder Box

During a treasure hunt through Museum Schokland, you will find marvelous things. It is the collection of Jannetje, who once lived on the island. Each object has an exciting story. In the attic studio, you will then create a special mini-museum for your own collection. And of course, you will be the director.

Expedition Schokland I

A wandering trip with live music, during which the history of the island Schokland comes to life. You will search for treasures from the past and hear exciting island stories. You will conduct a number of mini-researches with your own artwork as a result. The expedition logbook also contains assignments to continue working on at school.

Expedition Schokland II

Discover everything about the inhabitants of Schokland in different time periods and see the history of this special piece of the Netherlands come to life. Your knowledge will be put to the test during your journey in and around the museum. This expedition includes an expedition booklet as well as a preparatory and a deepening lesson for school.

Practical Information

Due to the limited space in the museum, we can accommodate groups of up to 25 students for guided excursions and workshops. If the groups are larger, the number of students can be proportionally divided over multiple excursions.

The teaching materials will be sent by email after the application has been scheduled.

Please note that most applications are scheduled well in advance (before the start of the new school year). During the current season, there is limited availability due to high demand for our museum activities.

The prices listed are for schools in NOP/Urk. Schools outside the municipal subsidy area for NOP/Urk will pay an additional 10%.
