Museum Schokland takes you on an unforgettable journey through 10,000 years of history, from prehistoric times to the reclamation of the Noordoostpolder in 1942. Here, on the former island of Schokland, you can discover how people and water have challenged, shaped and inspired one another over the centuries.

A unique UNESCO World Heritage experience

Schokland has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995 and was the first site in the Netherlands to be included on the World Heritage List. This recognition highlights Schokland’s international significance and shows that its stories are valued around the world.

Visitor guidelines

Pets are not permitted inside the museum. Dogs are welcome in the museum shop and Restaurant Schokland, but are not permitted on the museum grounds. Assistance dogs, including guide dogs, are exempt from these restrictions.
