The bell of the museum church has a fascinating history. It was cast in Amsterdam in 1710. Until the evacuation of the island in 1859, the bell rings in the church on Schokland. Afterwards, it hangs unused in the tower. During World War II, the German occupier confiscates all bronze objects. To prevent the bell from being melted down for war materials, it is hidden in a farm shed.

After the war, it reappears and is donated to the Reformed Church of the new polders village of Ens. On special occasions, the bell is rung until the church closes its doors in 2006. The bell loses its function for the second time.

The Protestant community from Ens decides to lend the bell to the Schokland museum. On September 19, 2009, its sound is heard on the former island for the first time in a long time.
