In 1978, Mr. Vink discovers a beautiful flint axe during a walk near Schokland.

He brings his find to the Rijksuniversiteit Leiden for identification. The renowned archaeologist Louwe Kooijmans dates the axe to an age of approximately 5,000 years. This is the period of the so-called Funnel Beaker culture, which is particularly known for the construction of dolmens.

Mr. Vink keeps the prehistoric axe at his home for many years. Eventually, he donates the axe to the Schokland Museum, where it now serves as a highlight in the permanent exhibition.
