Knight's spur from Kuinre

A spur from the 14th century, found at the location where one of the castles of Kuinre once stood.

Description

In 1165, a castle is built slightly south of Kuinre. The castle is inhabited by the lords of Kuinre. These knights have long dominated the area around Schokland.

In the 14^th century, the castle is abandoned due to land erosion and the risk of flooding. A new castle is built slightly further inland. It loses its function in the 16^th century and is demolished.

After the drainage of the Northeast Polder, the remains of the castles are excavated and studied. This has resulted in beautiful archaeological finds.

This fine bronze spur is one of the masterpieces. It is dated to around 1300 AD.
