Description

In the Middle Ages, the Lords of Kuinre had their castle in the area of the present-day Noordoostpolder. The knights engaged in piracy and minted their own money.

Their mint was located for some time in Emmeloord on the later island of Schokland.

This rare coin bears the inscription ‘Moneta Emelward’ (coin of Emmeloord).
