Description

This geological map of the Zuiderzee was carved from wood in 1875 by Mr. Jacob Paulus Amersfoordt.

The map, actually a model,  accurately indicates the elevation differences and even the soil types in various colors. A closure plan for the Zuiderzee from 1865 is also depicted.

The English inscription was placed in connection with a large international exhibition in Philadelphia in 1876 where the map was displayed.

This historical unique piece was donated to the museum in 1958.
