Description
This geological map of the Zuiderzee was carved from wood in 1875 by Mr. Jacob Paulus Amersfoordt.
The map, actually a model, accurately indicates the elevation differences and even the soil types in various colors. A closure plan for the Zuiderzee from 1865 is also depicted.
The English inscription was placed in connection with a large international exhibition in Philadelphia in 1876 where the map was displayed.
This historical unique piece was donated to the museum in 1958.
